Ballindalloch Distillery
Ballindalloch Distillery is a family-owned, single-estate Speyside distillery on the Ballindalloch Estate. The idea for the distillery began in 2011, with the old estate steading transformed into a traditional, largely manual production facility. It was formally opened on 16 April 2015 by the then Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, now King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Project 404 has been involved with Ballindalloch Distillery from the very beginning, supporting its digital presence from the official opening of the distillery and the production of its earliest spirit through to the release of its first bottlings and its growth into international markets. We designed and developed the website, built the online shop for UK, European and US customers, integrated online tour booking, and continue to provide ongoing website management, maintenance and technical support.

The Project
Project 404 has worked with Ballindalloch Distillery from its earliest days, supporting the business through each stage of its development from new distillery to established single malt producer.
The website has evolved alongside the distillery itself, telling the story of its creation, traditional production methods and single-estate approach. Ballindalloch grows its own barley on the estate, carries out production manually, matures its spirit on site and bottles and labels its whisky by hand. The distillery forms part of the wider Ballindalloch Estate, whose story and visitor experience are also represented through our work on the Castle website.
As the first whiskies became ready for release, we developed the online retail side of the business, creating e-commerce routes for domestic and international customers, including dedicated UK and US shopping experiences and support for wider overseas distribution. The distillery now releases whisky into a range of international markets.
We also integrated online booking for distillery tours and tastings, allowing visitors to explore the available experiences, check availability and book directly through the website.
Project 404 continues to manage and support the site with ongoing development, maintenance, content updates and technical support, helping the digital platform evolve alongside new releases, visitor experiences and the continued growth of the Ballindalloch brand.
“Tim has been exemplary in his support of our businesses’ websites and their online functionality. Always constructive, his skill in translating the key elements of our businesses to online has been impressive. He makes himself available to clients and communicates well.”
